Choosing sustainable packaging is only part of the solution — knowing how to dispose of it correctly is just as important. At Compost Connect, we design our products to have a positive end-of-life impact. Here’s everything you need to know to make sure our packaging ends up where it belongs: back in nature.
1. Commercial Composting
Most of our packaging is certified for commercial composting.
Commercial composting facilities create the perfect conditions — higher heat, moisture, and microbial activity — to break down compostable materials quickly and safely.
How to dispose:
-
Collect used compostable packaging separately from general waste and recycling.
-
Drop it off at or arrange pickup with a certified commercial composting facility near you.
-
If your area offers food and compostable packaging collection services, simply include it in your compost bin.
2. Home Composting
Some of our products are suitable for home composting. These items may take longer to break down compared to food scraps but will eventually decompose in a well-maintained compost pile.
How to dispose:
-
Check if the item is labeled "Home Compostable."
-
Cut larger items into smaller pieces to speed up the breakdown process.
-
Add to your backyard compost bin along with food scraps, garden clippings, and other green waste.
3. Recycling
While most of our products are designed for composting, certain items like recycled paper products (bags, napkins, sleeves) may be accepted in your local paper recycling stream.
How to dispose:
-
Confirm local recycling guidelines first.
-
Ensure products are clean and free from food residue before placing them in the recycling bin.
4. General Waste (as a Last Resort)
If composting or recycling isn't available, some packaging may need to be disposed of in general waste.
While this isn't the ideal outcome, our compostable products are still a better choice than plastic, as they will break down faster over time compared to conventional plastics that can persist for centuries.
Important Tips
-
Check local guidelines: Composting and recycling rules vary by region, so always check what’s accepted in your area.
-
Educate staff and customers: Provide clear signage and instructions at events, cafes, or businesses to encourage proper disposal.
-
Separate correctly: Avoid contaminating recycling streams with compostable items, and vice versa, to ensure maximum environmental benefit.
